A Haultain parent found this article on canada.com, and asked us to post it. They thought it would spark some interesting discussion, and get some dialogue around childhood obesity started. It's a great idea. It's not getting any better.
Stay warm out there - it's meant to warm up again by the middle of the week!
This article was a great read.
ReplyDeleteI think the study has proved that a mother raising her own children is very inportant. The one thing that i would challange the research on is it states that they think obesity is high because there is no time for healthy meals to be prepared by moms. I think that other factors that may contibute is the child is emotionally eating to fill the void of mom, sad but true.My last thought is also that parents let their kids eat whatever they want because they feel guilty for not being there for the child, buying their love with food. sound crazy?? think about it, not really.
okay wow !!! I read the comments posted at the end of the article, you must read them. I cannot believe how many women complained about their spouses not helping around the house. you have got to be kidding me !!! If you can't sit down with your spouse and tell them that you need some help, then thats your problem.
ReplyDeleteso tired of the women complaining about the lack of help that they recieve from their husbands. talk to him not the world, communication goes a long way.
At the bottom of the article there are comments posted. i ended up reading all of them and was quite surprised at some of the comments.
ReplyDeletethe one that i would like to touch on is, a women stated that people can barely survive off even 2 incomes let alone 1. I would like to say to people who think like her, in a lot of cases it's not about providing the neccesities is why both parents work, but more about how materialistic society has become. I bet there are thousands of couples who could afford to have one parent stay home to raise the kids if they cut back to maybe one car payment istead of 2, not buying brand name clothing, having your children in 5 different activities, going on 4 vacations a year and the list could go on.
there is many sacrafices that one can make if they really wanted to stay home and raise their children. i'm not saying everyone could do this, but a lot more then people realize.
obesity is the least of our future problems with this generation of child raising, or lack of. I still can't wrap my head around how society thought that moms having kids and then handing them over to complete strangers to raise them was going to have a sunshine and lolipops outlook. kids need their mother.
