Why our schools are failing boys

Looking at the demographics of university-bound students today, it is hard to believe that not so long ago we were developing programs to get more girls into university.

By all indications now, that same spirit of reform and innovation is needed to push more boys into higher education — for all that may be worth.

These days I need only peek into a class and I can tell by the gender makeup whether or not it is academic or applied.

Excellent article Nick - this article claims that boys are 3.5 times more likely to be suspended from school than are girls, http://www.globecampus.ca/in-the-news/article/ontario-board-pushes-for-boy-friendly-school/ as one of the reasons to start a 'boy-friendly' school with different teaching methods and environments.

  2. I certainly do appreciate those teachers who put a little extra effort into their work by "tuning into" the individual needs of their students, whether it is regarding gender, experience, maturity, ability, etc...
